SAP is proud to announce that SAP Transportation Management 9.3 (SAP TM) and SAP Extended Warehouse Management 9.3 (SAP EWM) is now generally available to customers.

With the introduction of transit warehouse capabilities, logistics companies can manage complex movements of goods from origin, to consolitdation points to destination. It allows to unload, consolidate and load packages instead of products. Further enhancements introduce billing of warehouse services for both, logistics service providers as well as for shippers contracting warehouse services.

The programs will enter immediately the GA Care phase.

Planned Shipping Handling Units during Picking

Cartonization Planning (CAP )

Introduction:

This document will guide how the Cartonization Planning tool results in SAP. There is no business process include in this document, Its just Transactional Overviews in SAP.

Cartonization is the process of evaluating the contents of an order to determine the number and size of each shipping carton required for the order. Cartonization normally requires dimensional information (weight, height, length, and width) for each item.

Cartonization planning to improve the creation of shipping handling units (HUs) based on information from product master data and outbound delivery orders, such as quantities, volume, and weight.

Cartonization planning results in the creation of planned shipping handling units (PSHUs) that you can use as templates for creating shipping HUs during picking or packing.

A PSHU is an object similar to a shipping HU, describing a packaging material and the items it contains. In contrast to a shipping HU, a PSHU does not physically exist in the warehouse and is only used to plan shipping HUs.

The system uses PSHUs as a template for creating shipping HUs during either picking or packing

                         Picking with Cartonization Planning

PSHUs can be created manually and automatically in cartonization planning.

Automatic  PSHUs:

Automatic cartonization planning uses algorithms to create PSHUs. Algorithms are defined as implementations of the Business-Add In BAdI: Cartonization Planning Algorithm.

Process-1:Cartonization Planning During Picking

Case-1:

Automatic cartonization planning to have the system create planned shipping handling units (PSHUs) for pick-warehouse tasks (WTs) during warehouse order (WO) creation. In Picking cartonization planning, the system can use planned shipping handling units (PSHUs) as templates for creating pick-HUs, which you can then use as shipping Hus.

Delete of PSHUs:

SAP recommend to delete obsolete PSHUs regularly i.e., those items are already goods issue.

To delete obsolete PSHUs, on the SAP Easy Accessscreen, choose  Extended Warehouse ManagementWork SchedulingCartonization PlanningDelete Planned Shipping Handling Units  or schedule the report/SCWM/R_CAP_DELETE.

Continuation from last document on Cartonization Planning ( Cartonization Planning( CAP ) during Picking ).

Cartonization Planning( CAP ) during Packing

The system uses the PSHUs as templates for proposing packaging materials or destination HUs for shipping HUs while packing at the work center or using radio frequency (RF).

Here in this process,It is only consider the area related to Cartonization Planning. These data is only used for test scenario and no business meaning here with these data.

Process:

PSHU Generate for Outbound delivery Order using below.

execute the transaction on the SAP Easy Access screen under  Extended Warehouse Management>Work Scheduling>Cartonization Planning>Cartonization Planning for Outbound Delivery Order  or schedule the report  /SCWM/R_CAP_BACKGROUND.

Packing at the Work Center:

SAP Easy Access->Extended Warehouse Management Execution   Packing – General

Tcode-/SCWM/PACK - Packing – General

Here in example, It picked the target quantities in 2 Pick Hus and moved to Packing Centre so that System propose first Packaging Material based on   create shipping HU when scan the first Pick HU and then propose destination HU ( which was created while scan first Pick HU ) when scan the second pick HU.

Important Note:

  1. The system groups outbound delivery order items that are to be packed together.

During cartonization planning, the system processes each group independently of other groups. Delivery items from different groups are not planned to be packed together in the same HU. The grouping depends on the following criteria:

    2. The system can modify the grouping of outbound delivery order items.

This is an optional step. For more information, see Customizing for Extended Warehouse Managementunder Business Add-Ins (BAdIs) for Extended Warehouse ManagementGoods Issue ProcessCartonization PlanningBAdI: Pre- and Postprocessing of CAP Algorithms.

3. The system executes the cartonization planning algorithms to create PSHUs.

    4. The system can modify the result of cartonization planning algorithms.
